Spindrift is a collection of true seagoing anecdotes about the experiences of three brothers, each of whom served aboard U.S. Navy ships during his service. One of the authors was a Torpedoman Second Class on U.S.S. Barbero, a guided missile diesel submarine in the late 50s. The second author served as a seagoing Marine Corporal aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Wasp also during the late 50s. The third author, a career Naval Aviator, served aboard a number of aircraft carriers over a 33 year career ultimately retiring as a Rear Admiral. More

Spindrift can be ordered on line at
Barnes and Noble.

Also, read The Mess Cook, by Dan Gillcrist. This short vignette tells the story of the Submariner's last enemy: the Deep. There are no witnesses to this struggle, no one to boast, "I was there once...." It is the story of the inexolerable, inevitable end which man and machine come to, when the Deep overcomes.

Gundeck is about US Navy history; it's about stories, anecdotes, yarns, myths, legends, lore, and occasionally, just plain bull. As we build Gundeck, we hope that those of you who have once served in the United States Navy or Marines will visit us, and maybe contribute a little of your own.
